How did you meet?
Back in 2019, I (Jasmin) was scrolling through Instagram when a photo on my Explore page stopped me in my tracks — a girl with the most beautiful blue eyes in a backwards hat, sitting in Dolores Park. I immediately followed her on Instagram and prayed to God: “Please send me someone like her. If you do, I promise to love her and treat her like an angel — I want a girl who looks like her and is also just as deeply in love with me.” But the girl never followed back, so eventually, I unfollowed her.
Fast forward to 2021.
I (Lauren) came across a mutual friend’s post and spotted the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen. I followed her immediately! A week later, I slid into her DMs, admiring how fun her birthday party looked. We chatted back and forth for a week.
On September 6, 2021, I had my car packed up — my 6 month old kitten, Ruka, all — and was moving to San Diego. That morning, I messaged Jasmin to see if I could meet her in Long Beach (where she lived) for a sunset skate. I roller skated and she longboarded…and we cruised down the boardwalk as the sun set. It was so easy to be around her.
We then grabbed poke at a local spot in Belmont Shore and talked for hours. No topic was off limits. We dove deep into morals, values, emotional intelligence, family, love languages, tendencies, and much more and quickly realized how aligned we were — and how rare that was. I texted my best friend that night, “I’m pretty sure I just met my future wife”.
And that was it! The rest was history!
Why did you choose to have a destination wedding?
We’ve been to enough weddings to know that they tend to fly by in the blink of an eye — and before you know it, it’s over! With so many people to celebrate with, it can get stressful trying to find time to visit with everyone, while still enjoying the moment and being present with your partner.
We were drawn to the idea of slowing things down. We wanted more than just a moment — we wanted a whole experience. A week in paradise with our favorite people, making memories, celebrating our love, and soaking it all in together.
We’re beyond excited to spend real, meaningful time with all of you while celebrating this next chapter in our love story!
Why did you choose to have your wedding at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya?
Let us tell you — we did not come by this decision lightly! We searched high and low, pined over countless resorts, and spent months trying to find the perfect place to host such a special moment in our lives.
When we found Secrets Akumal, everything just clicked. It had everything we were dreaming of — the natural beauty, the tropical vibes, and that relaxed, romantic feel that just feels like us.
It’s also only 30 minutes away from where we got engaged! So coming back to this part of Mexico feels like a full-circle moment. It’s a place that already means so much to us, and now we get to make even more unforgettable memories there — with all of you!
