How did you meet?
Blake and I were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend in early 2024. We met at a local Irish bar that’s still one of our favorite date-night spots. From the moment we met, we’ve been inseparable.
A few weeks into dating, we discovered an unexpected connection: our parents both attended and graduated from the same small-town Texas high school. The coincidences didn’t stop there. At our destination wedding, we learned that several of our guests already knew each other, which somehow made the whole weekend feel even more meant to be.
Why did you choose to have a destination wedding?
We both love the beach, and the bride never misses an opportunity to travel. Although Mexico was new to us, the photos and stories of its beautiful beaches immediately felt right. A destination wedding gave us the chance to create a small, intimate celebration and turn it into a full weekend of fun with the people we love most.
We intentionally kept our guest list small, around 32 people, so we could truly connect with everyone who joined us. Having our closest friends and family together in one place allowed us to share our love of the beach, slow mornings, sunset views, and a weekend full of laughter and celebration. It felt less like a formal event and more like a meaningful getaway with the people who mean the most to us.
Why did you choose SLS Playa Mujeres and your destination?
After weeks of research and guidance from Andrea and her team, we chose the SLS Playa Mujeres as the perfect fit for our destination wedding. We explored several locations, including Cabo, Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta, before landing on Cancun and narrowing in on exactly what we were looking for.
With families on our guest list, it was important to find a resort that welcomed kids while still offering an elevated, adults-only feel for those seeking it. The SLS struck the perfect balance of luxury and laid-back energy. Although the resort had recently opened and had limited photos and videos available, we kept coming back to its intimate, exclusive atmosphere, and it exceeded every expectation. From the service and amenities to the overall vibe and location, it couldn’t have been a better choice.
What was your most memorable moment during your ceremony?
Choosing just one moment is almost impossible. Our ceremony took place right after a day of nonstop storms, and the sun came out at the exact moment everything was ready to begin. It felt truly magical.
The most memorable part was our sand ceremony. It was something I was hesitant about at first and admittedly thought might feel a little silly, but the meaning behind it and the words our officiant shared as we poured the sand together completely changed my perspective. It became a moment we’ll carry with us for a lifetime, and many of our guests later shared how unique and special it felt to witness.
What was the best part about having a destination wedding?
Spending an entire weekend with our closest friends and family was something truly special and unforgettable. It allowed us to slow down, connect more deeply, and give our loved ones a fuller glimpse into our relationship and why we chose each other.
One of our favorite moments was a private catamaran trip the day before the wedding: dancing, snorkeling, taking tequila shots, and celebrating our love together. Experiences like that simply wouldn’t have been possible without a destination wedding… especially the snorkeling part!
