How did you meet?
We met how a lot of people meet nowadays, through online dating. We both had joined Facebook Dating soon after it was introduced. We both joked that our options on the site were not ideal so we were each others “Diamonds in the Rough.”
Our first date was to drive around looking at Christmas lights where we were able to really talk and connect more. Soon those dates evolved into day trips up to the local ski resorts and before we knew it, we decided to make things exclusive. It helped that a global pandemic had started right as we made it official so we had nothing but time to be together and get to know each other better.
Why did you choose to have a destination wedding?
Many local venues around us were very comparable in price, but were lacking a lot of those extras that a destination wedding offered. We felt we got more for our money doing a destination wedding and it made the entire experience a fun vacation for us and our guests. The wedding happened to be the main event of the trip for everyone.
Why did you choose to have your wedding at Secrets Moxché Playa Del Carmen?
We loved how open and vibrant Secrets Moxche was from all the pictures and videos we saw. You never had to leave the resort because it had everything you wanted. Delicious restaurants, live entertainment, scheduled activities, night life, etc.
We also loved that it was an adults-only resort so us and our guests could get a break from the kids in our lives.
What was your most memorable moment during your ceremony?
Seeing Kasey walk down the aisle after months of planning. Once I saw her in her beautiful dress, it made all of those times of stress and anxiety of planning a wedding well worth it. All of those times led to this amazing moment and we wouldn’t change it for the world.
What was the best part about having a destination wedding?
The moments outside the wedding. Most other weddings suffer from you and your guests not really getting time with one another because everyone is traveling in one day, attending the wedding the next, and then leaving the day after. It limits those experiences and some guests can feel like they’re an outsider during the wedding because they know only a few people or the wedding couple only.
A destination wedding allowed us and our guests to interact with one another well before and after the wedding. It really helped connect all the people from different facets of our lives. By the time the wedding was happening, everyone had been together and around each other for a couple of days so these people went from strangers to friends quickly.
What was your experience using Shoreline Destinations?
We thought Shoreline was great. They really helped figure out those logistics of a destination wedding you may forget about if you weren’t using a travel company to help. The air travel, room bookings, shuttle services, etc.
We think it was money well spent because it took a few things off of our plates and gave us more time and energy to focus on wedding details.
