How did you meet?
We met at one of our favorite places to go… the gym! We had been working out at the same time almost every single day for a while and certainly began noticing each other (or at least I know I noticed Michael pretty quickly). He was always so charismatic and talkative in the gym, I felt like he knew everyone there. The first time Michael spoke to me he said, "Hi" as I walked past him heading out the doors and I nervously and reflective said, "Bye" and just kept on walking. I will never forget how utterly embarrassed I was when I greeted his "hi" with a "bye". A few days later Michael approached me at the gym to introduce myself and the rest is really history!
Why did you choose to have a destination wedding?
Before either of us knew each other, our one nonnegotiable for a wedding was to be married on the beach with our toes in the sand. We have always loved the Caribbean and felt the beaches and turquoise blue waters are unmatched. From going to different Caribbean islands time and time again for our vacations, we knew it would be a perfect place to bring family, friends and our most loved ones to witness us celebrate our love and get married! How many times can you say you went on a vacation with 45 of your closest family and friends?!
Why did you choose Beaches Turks & Caicos as your destination?
Michael and I had our first Sandals vacation together in Exumas in 2022 and fell in love with the resort and everything it has to offer. The island, staff, and hospitality was unforgettable and we thought a Sandals/Beaches resort would be a perfect place to get married. Turks and Caicos was an island neither of us had been to before and we wanted to get married in a place that was new to the both of us so we could always associate that island with our wedding and make brand new unforgettable memories. When we arrived to Beaches Turks and Caicos and took our first step on the beach and looked out at that beautiful water, we knew we found the perfect spot! We also loved the vast size of the resort which could give our guests a place to explore and not feel claustrophobic or limited in their experience.
What was your most memorable moment during your ceremony?
Everything about our ceremony was perfection. The sun was shining so brightly it just lit up those turquoise blue waters. Guests were encouraged to remove their shoes and enjoy that soft white sand beach between their toes. The wedding coordinators helped pass out drinks and cool towels to our guests on the beach as they waited for me to come down the aisle. What I remember most vividly from the wedding is standing at the end of the dock just before I was about to take my first steps down and looking out at Michael and seeing him so excited and full of tears waiting for me to walk down. It was hard to look anywhere else but in his eyes the entire ceremony. After our "I do's" we made it a point to sneak away just the to of us for 15 minutes with a celebratory glass of champagne and just really reflect on the fact that we just got married! There were a lot of "Oh my gosh!" and "I can't believe how perfect that was!" comments from the both of us. I relive that ceremony all the time and wish I could back to the moment in time often.
What was the best part about having a destination wedding?
Our favorite part of the destination wedding was being able to spend time with all of our family and friends on one of the most beautiful islands in the world. We have a very meaningful relationship with every single person that was able to attend our wedding and it was so special to be able to spend more than just one to two days with them. Many guests traveled from the west coast to Turks and Caicos and so most stayed for at least 3-5 days with some even staying for the week! We were able to experience the entire resort with everyone. We planned a special post-reception sunset catamaran cruise with all 45 guests and even planned out a day time excursion around the island a couple days letter for the guests that were able to stay a while longer. We truly felt that we were able to spend quality time with everyone there and were able to enjoy ourselves and introduce all of our friends and family to each other.
What was your experience using Shoreline Destinations?
The Shoreline Destinations team was truly on top of everything and it felt too good to be true. They removed a majority of the stress out of planning the room block, helping guests book their rooms, and coordinating a lot of the wedding planning between myself and the resort. You can imagine how daunting it is to plan an entire wedding over the phone at a place that you had only been to once before for a few days. There is a lot that goes into the planning process and Shoreline destinations was always on my side. They ensured my questions and guest questions were answered promptly and professionally. I would recommend them to anyone that is planning a destination wedding particularly in Mexico or the Caribbean. They did a truly fantastic job and I can't praise them enough for making sure our wedding dreams came true!
