Chris & Matt

Wedding date: May 2021

Travel advisor: Andrea Norfolk

Destination: Riviera Maya, Mexico

Resort: UNICO 20°87° Riviera Maya

How did you meet?
We met at a nightclub, Chris was bartending and Matt was in with some friends to celebrate a birthday.

Why did you choose to have a destination wedding?
We loved the idea of being able to create an opportunity for all of our friends and family to escape and celebrate this milestone in our life together. It was also very important that we are able to spend a few days with everyone, relaxed by the pool/beach with drinks in hand. Which is something that you do not get with a traditional wedding.

Why did you choose your resort and destination?
UNICO 20°87° is a beautiful, boutique style hotel that was small enough to feel intimate, but large enough to accommodate our group.  We knew it was for us is when we saw that they focused on their cuisine and cocktails. Currently living in NYC a major part of our life is enjoying delicious food and cocktails, this was exactly what we were looking for. We liked Mexico because it is somewhere that neither one us has been before, and is an easy destination for all of our guest to travel to.

Did you add any personal touches to your wedding ceremony?
We kept our ceremony simple and let the natural background do all the work, the only extra that we added was some greenery around the trellis that we stood under.  Having the beach as a backdrop, and a beautiful resort, was the perfect touch.

What was your most memorable moment during your ceremony?
Looking out into the audience and seeing all the people that mattered most to us celebrating our milestone in Paradise.

Did you do any activities with your guests?
The first night everyone was there we hosted a welcome dinner on the beach, which helped set the tone for all the fun that we were going to have for the week.  We had couches and lounge areas set up on the beach to make it a very relaxed feel. Each day we hung out by a different pool at the resort and made our own party.

What was the best part about having a destination wedding?
We got to have a worry- and stress-free wedding of our dreams in a beautiful location.  The bonus was that we also got to experience the ultimate vacation with our 60 closest friends.  This will go down as the best and most memorable experience/trip of our life.

What was your experience using Shoreline Destinations?
I don't even know where to begin on this one.  This was all possible thanks to Andrea and her awesome team at Shoreline Destinations. From our first call with Andrea (which was directly after being a guest at a different destination wedding planned by Andrea) we knew we were in good hands. Andrea is beyond knowledgeable about the whole process and was able to walk us through step by step and answer any questions that we had (and I had a lot of questions). She walked us through every step of the way from narrowing down the perfect resort that met our needs, the room block contract process, booking our guest, sending out all communications to our guest to keep them up to date and informed on the process, and even setting up all transportation for everyone TO & FROM the resort. She made planning our wedding in another country fun and carefree.  We could not have imagined even trying to do this without her and her team, and for that we are forever grateful.
